It started exactly like this. A few years of public protests and social turmoil with the left and the right going at each other throat over trivial bullshit, while the institutions of the State did absolutely fucking nothing. First it was "peaceful" public manifestations, with a few scuffles here and there. Then one day, during one of those protests, a policeman was shot dead. Then it was a dead guy every few months. Finally domestic terrorist groups started popping up. The political assassinations and bombings started.

In Italy as soon as leftist and right wing terrorist organization started acting, they also immediately started receiving support from external sources (your country and the russians). that had interest in mantaining a state of chaos in the country, to avoid that either side would prevail. The state itself did his own fair share of terrorism, masking it as right wing terrorism. They called it Strategy of the tension.
