That wasn't my argument. Communist countries were always smaller but proportionally had to devote substantially more of their resources towards military spending than the capitalistic west.
It is no surprise that the degenerate capital cities of global trade can buy as many guns as they want. But what I'm suggesting is that communist countries being forced to do so while fighting off constant internal western interference has more to do with its failure than communism itself. We have never seen communism without it being under attack from the west.

What made Marx a revolutionary thinker is that he attempted to give a scientific, materialist account of the development of society; he did not simply propose some utopian future society, such speculations were worthless to him. Socialism is supposed to be superior to capitalism in every way, not some utopian project that gets destroyed because people are like, totally greedy and stuff.
