Russians are fucking crazy. I had a Russian roommate in college who had no concept of moderation, personal space or private property. His friends and girlfriend, when they visited from Russia, showed the same characteristics. They were all from Moscow, highly educated, rich and well-connected. My experiences over 2 years with these people taught me that Russians make great friends, but terrible neighbors, and that you should never let them in your house or near your stuff.

The overall feeling of being in Russia was cool for me. One of the best memories was when my neighbor found out I was from Texas. Russia is very different. I liked Saint Petersburg - very nice looking city, lots of interesting people, great cultural life.
But you have to look for it to find it. On a daily basis, your average Joe/Jane will be less civil than an average guy in Europe, for example. That especially goes to workers in service industries (e.g. restaurants, malls, hotels etc), even worse with governmental services (police, administrative services) - I mostly found utter reluctance to work, extreme rudeness and generally not giving a fuck.That really stands out, if you are used to the proper Western standards of work ethics and culture.

I hated Moscow, it's a terribly planned city, I was there on a work trip during an infamous heat wave, it was literally impossible to breath without coughing due to the extreme pollution. Traffic jams that last up to 6 hours is not something unusual as well. No green zones whatsoever, felt like a jungle dystopia made from bricks and concrete. Like in any capital city, people very way more aggressive on average (which is to be expected, people come here for money, power etc), but when it's an additional layer to already prevalent lack of proper ethics and average cultural sense, the result is pretty terrible.

Speaking about what I saw in the so called "regions", it feels like another country. Many people don't have proper sanitation and housing, other commodities, realities of life are very different - poverty, alcoholism, violence, stupidity.

Oh, last thing - hated the fucking churka immigrants. I was surprised how many mudslimes they have. Pretty wild ones too.

However, I want to visit some places in Russia purely for leisure - I love the nature they have in some regions.

So, Russia is a mixed bag, like any country. It can be different like Texas and California. But some traits are prevalent, and they are a tad too barbaric to my liking.
