Fun fact: More white people were lynched in the 19th and 20th centuries in the US than blacks.

It was a form of vigilante, mob justice, and victims of it were generally perpetrators of pretty heinous crimes (murder, rape, etc.).

If blacks were disproportionately lynched, it was probably because crime trends 100 years ago matched crime trends today, and blacks committed a disproportionate amount of crime.
