there are also high quality "american" cheese, like white american cheese from land o lakes. there are laws specifically governing how processed cheese products are labeled. the land o lakes qualifies to be labeled as american cheese. the kraft deluxe loose variety i think it the only one kraft make that can legally be labeled american cheese, which is decent but the land o lakes product puts it to shame. all the other ones will say "american cheese product", "pasteurized cheese product", or "processed cheese product". some variation of that depending on the oil vs actual cheese content.
