In the aftermath of the horrors of World War II, the former major players on the world stage began to collapse as global entities. The former Colonial Powers began to throw off new, Post-Colonial nations, either through agreement or force, and many of the leaders of these Mass Movements sought a new, fair, and secular state-which was democratic and sovereign in nature.
At some point within 30 years, many of these Democratic Secular regimes were challenged by new reactionary movements, and the original ideal of those Mass Movements began to crumble. What happened?

What do you guys think about the slow progress of secularization in post colonial settings? A lot of reaction movements have seemed to modernize themselves using the same concepts as secular revolutions, is there a future for national liberation in the "third" world? Was it a mistake to introduce western ideas there in the first place?

> Secularism wasn't born from these countries, neither was colonial rule. Secularism was presumed the future, but religion exists in the present, and is thus more of a threat than generally perceived. Liberation is an ongoing process that must be actively pursued, as it does not happen all at once or immediately on all levels.
