I'll eat Spam about once every 5-10 years. The only way I like it is sliced & heated in a fry-pan. It's good as a sandwich with cheese, or with eggs. It's not *bad*, but it's certainly not great.

I switched, quickly, from canned spam, to canned chicken. It's a lot more versatile, and doesnt have near the salt content.

Canned food lasts for *years*. Those dates are just CYA dates for the manufacturer. At one point, I bought cases of canned potatoes, for emergencies. I finally started adding them to pot roasts, etc. I finished off the last of them two months ago. They "expired" in 2015.

Spam is pretty good. It's cheap and helped alot of poor people during the war. It's just ham. People that freak out about it are literally retarded.

It's actually a combination of ham and pork shoulder. Both acceptable cuts of meat. It's literally the only canned luncheon meat that doesn't fuck around. Also the only binding agent it uses is potato starch, which has a very neutral flavor and maintains texture even after cooking and reheating.

What I do is I schloop it out of the can, cut off some nice thin slices, then throw them on an iron skillet, brown them on both sides, and that will render off enough of the fat to grease the iron skillet just enough to cook a couple of eggs on after. When you cut it thin and brown it it tastes just like bacon. And of course when you cook the eggs after you don't have to salt them because the spam leaves enough salt behind in the pan. It was designed as a survival food, so it's great to take camping and shit.
