It's a pretty nice city desu OP.
Much nicer than Beijing, pollution not as bad as Beijing as well. Although that's not saying much.

Make sure to visit the French quarter. In fact I advise to just end up spending most of your spare time there once you've explored most of the city. It's one of the cultured parts of the city, has some decent greenery in it too as well.

As for the people, there fairly friendly for the most part. Rarely will you see any of the 'crazy' shit in the streets that you see gifs/videos of from 4chan in Shanghai. This city is probably the most well ordered big city in China.

Another thing, you can take 1hr train trip down to Hangzhou in your spare weekends. Thats a smaller sized city 2-4 million and also quite nice with the West Lake there. Go see the temple complex on the SW side of the city too its pretty mad.

Make sure to try and visit some country though when you're there, thats where the possibility of seeing an increase of the crazy shenanigans increases, of which I had my fair share of when I travelled. Although to be fair, I at times was intentionally seeking that shit out.
