Can someone explain to me why whether or not the gold standard is a good thing? It looks to me like it is beneficial as it keeps from over inflation occuring but I don't think I'm grasping the full picture.

It is good when we are not that many people, so rare metals are a good currency, not easy to fake, durable, high liquidity, and limited.

When there are so many people that need a currency, therefore it's original value starts decreasing exponentially as it is limited.
There just isn't enough gold it would have to be millions of dollars per Oz
