In my opinion, in the case of some natural disaster or widespread blackout event, a person's generation doesn't really matter (except in terms of age). Survival instincts will kick in strong in some people and not as much in others. Sure, a larger percentage of the older generation might have more experience with camping or boy scout-tier knowledge of flora/fauna but when it comes to some real shit, people will learn quickly how to live in a post-whatever world because they have to.
