The thing that's really keeping me from embracing ethnic nationalism is that we're all mutts in America. The Polish, the krauts, the micks, the limeys, they all have basically continuous homogenous population, and shared histories and languages and cultures (and for the Poles, religion). But as Amerimutts that most of us are, what are we supposed to do? Any common history would be a lie; most of our forefathers were immigrants who abandoned their true Fatherland for economic gain. Our nation was founded upon disloyalty to country. In my father's generation they still distinguished Poles from Krauts from Anglos; now everybody's just WHITE. Their skin color, not even any language or culture or anything. I don't WANT to be 'White'; that has become a classification through the importation of slaves, and the globalization of our national consciousness. It's nothing inherently beautiful and positive; Whiteness is just formed from the negative, which is seeing ourselves against the backdrop of the Negro. Nietzsche would weep.
This is my nation, and I will defend it with my last drop of blood. But it is REALLY DIFFICULT to feel like it is MINE.
