They got attacked from every site and trapped in the city

They had no idea how many troops the USSR actually had in the west, they had no idea how many reservists the USSR had available to call up, they had no idea of the industrial capacity of the USSR, they had no idea how much arms they have stockpiled, etc.


In short, they didn't know what the fuck they were doing aside from assumptions of a quick war. IIRC the USSR raised something like 8x as many divisions as the Germans thought they were capable of in the first year of the war alone

Not only would taking it severely hamper Soviets efforts in the Caucasus against the advancing Germans but also deny (or severely hamper) the USSR's majority of its oil supplies. On top of that it would also lessen the German logistical difficulties in the area providing them a major railhead at the front.

German troops weren't as efficient as the Soviets in winter combat. Supply lines ran thin, some died of starvation, many died from overeating after eating like 400 calories a day for a long ass time. Hitler thought tank warfare was going to be effective in Stalingrad because he was wired on meth. Turns out it wasn't.

Because the faggot thought he knew more than his generals and field marshals. He didn't let them do their jobs and messed with everything from design of weapons to manufacturing and actual tactics and strategy.

Stalin on the other hand had enough intelligence to know his limits and let Zhukov win the war for him.

Besides the other factors other have mentioned, there are reports that the blitzkreg was a meth fueled tactic and basically the nazis were meth heads and total shit shape by this point in the war.

So that was one small factor combined with the fact Russia is a really hard place to invade - especially when no fucks are given and they burn everything as you come leaving zero supplies for you to plunder

Even in 1945 only 1/3 of trucks in use with the USSR were lend-lease. The majority of lend lease arrived post 1943. Iirc the raw number is something like 250k trucks. Claiming that the US provided all of the logistics to the USSR is dishonest at best.

Fun fact; The USSR also had several tens of thousands of captured German trucks in use by the end of the war

Concentrated use of armored units, air-land coordination, low-level leadership initiative and A LOT of luck as well. The fact the Germans rolled over France has almost more to do with the allied incompetence than it has with Germans themselves.
