I went to Crete for a vacation a couple years ago. all the people were super friendly and the food was amazing. They're very protective of their culture and customs. My great-grandfather was in the British army as a tank engineer and served on Crete during the battle against the Nazis. When he returned to the island years later with polio the local Cretans thought he was a war veteran that had been disabled in the Cretan battle. He had locals carrying him through the village, buying him ouzos and having him for tea and coffee.

That was 40 years ago. Now most Cretans and Greeks generally see the worst British tourists imaginable in Kavos and Malia and it fucks up everything for all of the actual good tourists.
