Captain hook is the best fairy tale representation of the average manchild.

He is a grown man living in the the neverland, where children also lives, and he lost his hand to Tik Tok, a crocodile that represents time.

Tik tok reminds us that time takes from us things that we can never have back. When we're young, we're pure potential to be anything, but we aren't really anything. As we grow older, we make choices that shapes us and makes us into something. But we lose the potential we once had. All this potential we trade, all the things we gave up being when we decided to be something else is the hand Tik Tok takes from us.

Captain Hook is grown up man that still lives in the same place children live. But he is not the same thing as the children. He already lost a piece of himself to time. He should be already something but he still isn't. He still lives in the neverland with children.

The placement of the hook in the place of the hand he once had, represents his refusal to admit that he's is not full potential anymore. He wants to pretend he still is what he once was when he was younger. And his fear of Tik Tok represents his fear of making grown up choices, taking reponsibility, making commitments and developing maturity.

He's also alone and unloved, so he is also depressive and destructive.
