I'm totally on board with transhumanism but whenever I read about it the people I see supporting it elsewhere on the internet are ALWAYS communists. I cant' seem to find a lot of futurist or transhumanist discussion with a right-wing bend, it's like the whole of the world has already accepted that the future is going to be more socialist.

One potential problem I can foresee with these up and coming technologies is that they are, by and large, going to erupt in asia first, because of their seeming non-existent care for the value of human life. Prepare to see splice babies coming out of China in droves as they work out the kinks while western scientists and doctors cry and drivel over the ethics.

Alternatively, prepare to see western geneticists move to china in droves to get a piece of this action.

I don't see a global conflict, necessarily, but definitely economic and political restrictions. Honestly, though, in order for transhuman technologies to take off, they are going to need some time to germinate outside the high moral and ethical restraints western society has placed on sorts of things. For example, a lot of what we know about the effects and stages of hypothermia is based on research done by the Japanese on prisoners of war during WWII. While no one today would argue in favor of letting a patient freeze to study the effects, the research those Japanese researchers did has been invaluable in treating hypothermia patients ever since.

Likewise, we'll need a period of unchecked genetic experimentation in order to get real facts to work off of in this field. It will be universally considered wrong, immoral, but it is what must be done.
