Ok so I get that in practice things don't change THAT much when democrats or republicans are in power. And most elected officials are all the same

But ideologically, the two parties are very different. And conservative and liberal philosophy do not cross over

How can there be a massive segment of the population that claims to be politically educated and informed, that is in any way "on the fence" and able to be persuaded to vote for either party?

I could not imagine any way my conservative philosophy would allow me to vote for a liberal democrat.
