What is strange though is that none of them ever escape the core of Leftist thinking. And this goes for Kaczynski as well. Not only did he push the immediacy of revolt, he effectively identifies technology as the true bourgeoisie and nature itself as the universal class. The flip-side of this would be those who were essentially pacifist versions of Kaczynski. Camatte and Perlman saw humanity as the universal class, particularly primitive humanity, and technological development (or domestication) as the ruling class.

I think Perlman came closest to escaping this Leftist thinking. His idea was similar to Jung, as the human begins to develop in the same way as the leviathan, accumulating a shell and a mask along with the development of society. He develops this protective shell as a defense as he is forged to the leviathan. And the greater the layers of this shell the farther away man falls from his humanity. Tearing away the shell tends to reveal a corpse rather than a human.

It is the myth and oral style of writing which gives it the potential to escape leftism. And in some ways I think it is more helpful than traditionalism, which is theoretically great, but generally still trapped in an enlightenment mode of thought and style.

I suppose one could even say that Perlman's myth even predicted the outcome of a man like Kaczynski. He became very machine-like in his revolt against civilisation, really effected nothing apart from publishing ideas reiterating what we already know, and in the end found himself transferred from the heart of dead nature to the deepest recesses of the megamachine.

At best, people who develop technology are just tinkerers and workers. Even at the highest levels of science men have no power over how their technological development will be used. The majority of technology today is really an attempt just to keep up with other forms of technology and to offset fragility in the system. Develop a rocket and it is up to the political system whether or not it will be manufactured and used. Develop gene altering technology and it is up to God whether or not whole areas will be wiped out as if a black hole had entered humanity.

It doesn't seem to me that either case is possible, revolution tends towards war and evolution seems impossible with a foolish populace consumed by decadence. Cataclysm seems the only way we will ever return to a proper society, which means patience, developing the few relationships and small groups possible to maintain these ideas, and then striking when the time is right (which may mean allowing other groups to lead a revolution, or accelerating towards the cataclysm only to reveal ourselves at the last moment).

Of course, my criticisms may be too consequentialist, and he simply chose the wrong targets. There is also an artistic irony in the devices he used in that that they were essentially a decayed form of technology, but I don't think this was a very primitive way to kill people. Maiming people or leaving their fate up to an accident is a very technological mindset.

But it's not inherently good or neutral either. However, it does suggest a human weakness in that they are not always fit to live in the natural environment, humans are essentially a negative (or unfinished) animal. Without completion, and relying on the mind rather than physical characteristics, they are not of nature in the same way that other animals are. The human (old) technology is only a threat insofar as it seeks to destroy this world.
