Maxine Waters, who has stood in vocal opposition to Donald Trump from the start, is now laying out what she believes is a plot by his own henchmen to oust him. Last night Congresswoman Waters tweeted that “Mike Pence is somewhere planning an inauguration. Priebus and Spicer will lead the transition.” (link). While she didn’t lay out specific evidence, her theory makes logical sense. Priebus and Spicer are Republican Party loyalists and former longtime RNC employees who would rather see a fellow party loyalist like Pence in power. But what could they be up to?

The Republican Party has two avenues for ousting Donald Trump. The first is to begin impeachment hearings in the House of Representatives, which could be tricky due to Speaker Paul Ryan’s lack of a spine. They would have to pressure Ryan into agreeing to it, and then they’d have to continue pressuring him after Trump begins pressuring him to put an end to it. The second is for Pence to convince a majority of the cabinet to go along with invoking the 25th Amendment.
