Now I am part of the management team of a factory in a rural part of the US. I may not make as much as I could have, but the work is far more rewarding, and the people are, in general, more likable.

Simply put I've now adopted the attitue intelligence means nothing until put to use and that I deserve nothing that I haven't attained through work or wit.

The logical conclusion is that you have to play your cards right and make your teachers want to give you good grades and like you. Don't overvalue your intelligence or develop an inflated ego. The fact that you even went to a "convention for gifted people" is kind of sad in itself.

I've had my IQ tested a few times and it's in the 140-150 range (146 last test) but I try to remain very humble. In fact I'm relatively unaccomplished in life. The only time I even really use my intelligence is in day-to-day conversation if someone challenges me in any sort of debate, and even then I'm usually just playing games to trap them up and amuse myself.

That has been the primary benefit of intelligence for me is just an ever present sense of amusement regarding the world around me.

In terms of making friends and interacting with normies, the best thing thing to do is, as I said, humble yourself, just "try" to be interested in things that you wouldn't naturally be interested in. You'll be surprised and sometimes the feigned interest becomes actual interest and you can make friends with people who would normally be far beneath you. What are those relationships worth? That's up to you. For me I just try to find reasons to laugh, so if I find someone who's really dumb but amusing, I can tolerate being around them quite a bit.
