I'm 32 years old so I could not tell you what they were like from personal experience. I imagine they were pretty harsh toward the end considering the fighting between the Marxists being funded and supplied by the Soviets and the Portuguese Army. I know Portugal had compulsory military service with Salazar in office, but it was still a very small military due to the economic and manpower limitations of Portugal.

Even still, we fought the fight nobody else wanted to. We helped Rhodesia more than any other Western Nation. As Chester Bennington would say, in the end it didn't even matter. It was all for nothing because nobody came to the rescue.
