Food stamps on provide a couple hundred a month, which if you're feeding 4, and you're not just buying fast food and junk, will let you feed 4 with healthy vegetables and fruits and still buy clothes for them. I mean that's how it's designed to be used, can't say much for the results exactly.
Food stamps should be tied to your personal ID so you can't just sell the food stamps like what ends up happening a lot.

As a person who grew up in government housing and remember taking actual food stamps (not ebt bullshit) to get food I can say that you are completely wrong and I will add that it was nearly all white where I lived. Basically programs like Section 8, SSI and Food Stamps should only be given to those who aren't able to earn their own living and thus earn their own retirement fund. Basically the disabled, those who are not of able body and/or able mind who are unable to work due to something that is no fault of their own, like something they were born with or something that was inflicted upon them by someone else. Everyone else should earn their keep and save 10% of their checks for retirement and another 10% for a rainy day fund. Literally everyone, even the unemployed and single mothers who can't keep their legs closed. And if there is a way for a disabled person to work through their disability so they can earn their own income then they should do it. The side effect though is that it is all subsidized.
A whole industry has grown arround subsidized jobs, programms and education here.

The jobs and programms are basically just an artificial wa to lower unemployment rate and cost the taxpayer a lot more than just handing out welfare.
