Tell people where you're going and when to expect you, use a buddy system, etc. I had some near misses when I was your age, especially coming home from dinners and parties late at night. I am 31. Us older folks can learn a lot from younger men and we can should be able to benefit from each other.

Look at the relationship between a father and his son. The father has a great deal of practical, real world experience. The son can learn things more quickly and has easier access to information. It's stupidity to flat out discredit the others beliefs based on age as both have been wired and programmed differently.

When I have sons, I will teach them what I know and listen to their ideas as I am sure I will be able to see things from a fresh perspective.

There are always exceptions and I've known a handful of mature people in their late teens and early 20s, but for the most part, adults that young lack the life experiences to make informed decisions about anything.

I'm 23 and I've been watching/listening to him a lot too. He kind of lays it all out for you. Very illuminating. I looked at people my age before I found him out and didn't think much of how they were acting. I also had a low standard of behavior set for myself as well. After grappling with his views and setting a strict and moral framework of how I live my life, I see things much differently, and act differently. Not because I felt like I've been told to do so by him, but because he caused me to do a lot of self reflecting and introspection. This led me to conclude that I should really live my life much more morally sound and disciplined than I was before. I think this is what "sorting yourself out" is. Finding yourself, and being yourself in a way that benefits you, your family, and society.
