Much of Europe have had winters, or regular bad weather.

An interesting point is that the Normans, who took over England, were from Normandy, originally from Denmark. And a very large number of both Scandinavians and Englishmen settled in the US.

So as to not excessively be scandinavian-supremacist here, there's many other situations conducive to people with positive traits having many children. Around the Mediterranean, trade was important.

And in different time periods, different traits have been important for survival.

Take Russia as an example. In the fight against the Nazis, a very large part of the male population died. Who died? Most of those who went to fight. Who went to fight? The brave, those with initiative.

Who went from the UK to the US or to Australia? On average, those who went to or were sent to the US or Australia were probably more adventurous and less restrained.

This isn't particularly scientific, but that doesn't mean that it should be rejected. Either one reality is true or another, and we should rather assume the one that seems slightly more likely, rather than treat one as the "default" and only switch to another if it fulfils a 95% confidence interval.

Anyway, I suspect that the traits needed for survival and childbearing under Islam on average over the past thousand years have been more dysfunctional than the traits needed for survival either in Scandinavia, in the UK or around the Mediterranean.

The same for China. The ancient and long-lasting system of linking high positions to performance in national exams presumably rewarded some traits and punished others.

E.g. we want to not descriptively register "Ahmed became angry and violent". We want to ask normatively: "Is it REASONABLE that Ahmed became angry and violent?". And comparatively: Would a European have become angry and violent?

If the differences between these were reduced through genetic engineering across a wide range of factors - both physically (face, skin tone, hair, height, muscularity) and cognitively (emotionally, intellectually) - why would the hostility remain the same?

You claim it would be, there just is no obvious reson that I can see. Maybe as the differences are less, and everyone can live up to a certain standard, the hostility becomes less.
