When Christianity took over in Norway, the kings and princes was the ones who traveled to foreign countries to be converted, then they eventually forced it upon the population trough extremely brutal violence. These building was made using old nordic carpenters traditions going back way longer than Christianity. However the only structures that remain are Churches because the Christians burned the holy pagan temples.

They literally took a several thousand year old tradition, and changed its entire meaning to be about the birth of jesus christ, when the original tradition had nothing to do with it. That is destruction.

First the burned all the temples and artifacts, then when the people continued to practice their traditions, they couldn't simply burn that away like they did with so many holy pagan temples. So they had to sleaze their way into it and change it from within, effectively destroying it.
