Take Magic Online as an example of subscription based services breaking down. Y'know why no one plays on Magic Online? Because xMage exists and is better without charging the user.(I realize Magic Online uses a different non-subscription model but the point's the same)
If all the functionality of your service can be reproduced better by a free service why would anyone not use it?
