Capitalism has been replaced by the fruit of its loins: monopolism and the monopolization of all capital in the hands of a very few billionaires with US citizenship. This mega-capital is now about to destroy all remainders of non-American mini-capital: in Russia, in 20, 30 years or so in China and meanwhile all what used to be the "middle-class."

The vast majority of all Westerners have lived in total poverty until rather recently, despite the West, due to the industrialization, being the richest part of the world. Only when the ruling class was afraid of poor people becoming socialists did they eventually introduce the so-called "welfare state" that later included basics like the "weekend." During the Cold War, the so-called "middle class" could establish itself because the Soviet Union did not only had many skeletons but an alternative to communism in its closet. This is the reason why especially Western Germany was so rich. Western Germany was meant to be the "window to the West" and hence US mega-capital pampered and spoiled it, until the living standard there was high. Today, this is no longer necessary.

Capital either wants to go to misery ("outsourcing") or import misery (open borders): to bring in low-wage workers who drive down wages. Also:

Once tools of the competing ruling classes, they are now regarded as disturbing, interfering elements, only obscure groups of low-status men sometimes try to use to defend a little benefit that was once granted to them when there was still competition. But with the impera being sufficient and only one group ruling anyway, the divide is no longer necessary and wanted.
