The issue with Germany was that it's armies were gutted by attrition and America entered the war. The closest they got to winning was within the first 3 months before they had to pull out of France to fight the Russians.

When the Germans went through Belgium to invade France (basically like what they did in WW2), the French counterattacked and captured the Alsace Lorraine region (IN GERMANY).
