The 90s never went away in some aspects.

It was all about being an edgy kid with RAD-itude.

It's just that you've grown up and realized that being an intentional contrarian is stupid as fuck, and for children only.

Was thinking of this today. The 90s were the best. People left eachother slone, race relations were best, politics werent in everything, etc. Back then people didnt say who they voted for for one, television was more innocent and family oriented, music wasnt all depressing, economy was better, internet wasnt full of socisl media there were chatrooms

It depends on your kind of lifestyle. For me it was a much harder time to live on because back then it was extremely hard to get subtitles for anime and translate manga, light novels, visual novels and dojin. In fact, it was even hard to just get your hands on them in the first place, usually college clubs had some storage but other than that, you're mostly on your own. Anime and manga stores had shit, they released separated volumes, like you could only buy volumes 6 7 and 8 of a series that go from 1 to 12. There were some arcade videogames around and the internet was a much better place. Actually it wasn't technically internet but it was fucking comfy. Threads like this get 404'd in a matter of minutes, back then it took months sometimes years for a thread to be archived but in compensation the quality was billions times better. McDonald's didn't do deliveries and most restaurant chains like KFC and Outback Steakhouse didn't exist (at least not in Germany). Search engines were terrible and people had to actually do some research, if they made stupid questions (like yours) they would be told to fuck off to preserve the purity and overall high quality userbase. I could go on but you get the idea. I went to college in Massachusetts and I traveled back there and it has much more blacks and latinos, streets are more unclean etc. Young people all look ugly, dye their hairs etc. I live in a small town so it's barely any different except we got more internet coverage at much higher speeds and some stores opened but that's it.

Also, travelling back them was harder in general. Most country free-visas that exist today didn't hold these same agreements 20 to 30 years ago. For example to travel to Japan to go to Comiket I had to fill in all kinds of papers. Nowadays travel is faster, cheaper and thousands of times more simple

Oh the 90s were to die for! Literally!
But what would a burger know about it...

There was one good thing about that time though, we were finally free of communism and hadn't yet signed up for EU or any other kike arranged deals.
Just our own people and our nation! Well and and a pretty big horde of Russian speaking undesirables left over from the Soviet occupation... But that's just one major problem instead of an endless tangle of problems introduced by the EU.

Well having been a teenager all through the 90s, let me tell you! The 90s were the time when the 80s died and everything stopped being cool. The music transformed from anything good into something called " alternative rock " which wasn't really alternative since they played it on every radio station.
The lyrics were suddenly confusing and nonsensical. The tones boring and depressing.
People started dressing funny. Oh they did in the 80s that's for sure, but it somehow became even worse. Track suits. Lots of nylon.
Women's hair during this time was the worst it's ever been in world history. I don't know what the fuck the average woman was doing with her hair during this time but I'm glad it stopped because Jesus Christ, eagles could and I'm sure did nest in that shit.
Movies became special effects super fests instead of the awesome fun stuff we got in the 80s. Except at this time, CGI looked like dog shit ( more than now ) so you can only imagine how shitty this was.

Like I said, the only thing the 90s represents to me is the death of the 80s. Nothing good came of the 90s. It was a shit decade.
Of course it was also the last decade that mattered. Since 2000s I haven't noticed the decades having flavor anymore. It all just seems the same. Shitty.
>>
>>134830674
perfect decade for kids, literally an unlimited amount of toys, video games, cartoons that were all top tier quality. I dont know if it was just because i was a kid, but looking back comparing to todays shit, kids today should just off themselves. It was magical

To add on to this, the 90's was the birth of being a cynical asshole all the time. Sarcasm started in the late 80s and by the 90s, it was common to speak lovingly about something you hate, then say NOT! At the end. The music got more depressing, the clothes looked like goodwill shit from the 70s and PC became widespread. The 80's were the last great decade.
>>
>>134832370
Ha ha ha I remember going to Toys-R-Us on my bike just to play the demo they had set up.

Laid back. The cold war had just ended and there was a general sense of peace, harmony among races and nations and overwhelming optimism about what the future held. Tv was much more holsom and interesting when every channel and network wasn't owned by only 6 jews. Saturday morning cartoons were the best. You woke up early as fuck, ate half a box of cereal while watching bugs bunny and then went outside and played for 12+ hours unsupervised with all the other kids in the neighbourhood. There were very little immigrants and the ones that were here were very hard working and made such an effort to assimilate and made sure there kids did as well. Maybe not for everyone, but in my case many of my teachers were the oldest of the baby boomers/ a couple ww2 vets. They were hard as fuck but caring and stern, they taught you to be a good student and upstanding citizen. No degen bullshit. Kids bullied eachother and got over it. We fought it out and made up after kicking the shit out of eachother. Politics wasn't anything children knew or were exposed to. Adults didn't preach their leanings and children weren't concerned with it, We were concerned with being kids. Toys were awesome, vidya was awesome, music was awesome, movies were awesome, just generally everything was comfy as fuck.

It was, champ. That's one of the things progressives forgot to mention while brainwashing gen Y. Think about it, in the 90s urban black and suburban white merged. The whole decade was a handful of chimpouts, tops. People started smoking weed again, loosened up. It was cool.
>>
>>134832786
>why is that? Wtf happened?

Consolidating of media, I figure. Look at the internet. How much of it feels different compared to the 90s, when you had Geocities, Angelfire, and every website looked different just about.

Now, everything has the same... flavor to it. Sterile, calculated, etc.

Hard to really quantify, but it just feels like everything is the same.

Precisely; millennial generation progressives fell for the same hippie commie crap that raged hard until 1970. In the long run, that's what pushed gen z so far right, so I guess there's that.
>>
>>134830674
I remember we didn't have the "duck and cover" drills in school after 1991 when the Soviet Union finally, completely dissolved, so that was a plus. Operation DESERT STORM was a resounding success, and the economy was pretty good. Terrorism was primarily confined to overseas, and the attempt that was made against the WTC failed miserably. Frankly, it felt a lot more optimistic and safer back then. The politically correct movement was just kind of...meh. I mean, it existed, but no one really paid it any mind in day-to-day life. Politics in general hadn't invaded every element of life, there was no internet, or slow internet, and not every idiot had a soap box. Nor did we have cell phones, so you actually had to plan if you wanted to go out and party. I liked it a lot more than now.

This.

The 90s wasn't that great, all the shit that people are being nostalgic about was afterglow from the 80s and earlier.

The 90s was when cynicism, the disruption of technology, and fucked up culture begins to set in big.

Everyone saying otherwise is just ignoring the rot that hid behind the veneer of normalcy that lead to today.

This. Consolidation of media means that the mid to late 2000's started to feel watered down. After 2010 it had come crashing down with everything feeling homogeneous. In the early to mid 2000's it was much better with more variety, and the 90's had people finding all sorts of niche entertainment, websites, and music.

The 90's was a great time. The internet was young and was split into millions of little cliques all with their own unique culture. People weren't tethered to a phone 24/7 so you got a lot more genuine social interaction with people. TV and video games weren't totally cucked so people had a good variety that was still good stuff. Anime was around, but hard to get unless you had a fan club or just watched early Toonami (which is where I was exposed to it).

The 90's was a magical time. It almost seems like America had regained a new innocence that it lost in 2001. I remember the turn of the century, when everyone was so full of hope for what the 2000's would contain. The economic boom happening (which was actually a bubble) had everyone believing the 2000's would be a time of technological prosperity. It was all a big fucking Jewish trick, and after 9/11 the hope was dead, especially with the shit that happened using 9/11 as the justification. Any kid born slightly before or just at the start of the 90's would become pretty damn bitter growing up a teenager in the early 2000's. I fucking hate neocons with a passion, and watching Trump shit all over them was one of my happiest moments.

I'm 34. Here are the major areas I think are different from today:

1) Phones - items of convenience, not necessity like today. Cell phones were only good for two things: making calls and sending texts (late 90's). Because of this limited functionality, people didn't sit at dinner staring down at their phones. They would talk and interact. People on the street weren't looking down at phones, they were looking ahead and therefore personal interaction was more prevalent (at least in my experience).

2) Internet - what a time to be alive. It was so awesome seeing the internet go from this fringe thing to literally changing the world year by year. So many companies tried to use it to grow but few knew how. Amazon only sold books and music, AOL was king and a 56k dial up modem on a PC with a 2X CD-ROM drive and Pentium 100 MHz was, at one time, considered a gaming beast.

3) News - nothing like what it is now. Nobody like Tucker or Hannity. Reporting tended to be fairly objective compared to today, with a few exceptions.

4) Optimism - no real threat of terrorism on US soil, no TSA lines. I remember having a rather positive outlook for the future, which may have been a result of the naivety of youth but maybe that's another discussion entirely.

5) Vidya - PC gaming was not nearly as possible as console gaming. The one thing PC had over console was simulation games like Microsoft Flight Simulator and Falcon 4.0 and some RPGs and FPS games (Doom, Wolfenstein, etc.). However, most PC FPS games came to console at some point anyway. Console gaming ruled the world though. Platformer games were dominant for a long time, until 3D graphics advanced enough for companies to break away from that. Sega Dreamcast was a huge milestone. It allowed people to play arcade games at home with no compromise in graphics quality or sound. This was basically the beginning of the end for arcades, which were another staple of the 90's.

I turned 49 last month. The 90's were the decade the U.S. enjoyed being the last superpower standing. We were the supreme military on the planet and established how badass the military Reagan built was with Desert Storm. The Democrats had their last gasp at controlling the legislature for twelve years after destroying their hold on power with a failed attempt at health care and the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban. And, God Help me, Bill Clinton actually forced the Republican congress to balance the budget while working with them to reform welfare. No politician could openly support gay marriage and the economy was roaring by the end of the decade. Syndicated television was still viable and some of the best shows on tv were first run syndicated shows. Gun culture kicked into high gear in response to the AWB and Snackbars were people who blew shit up elsewhere or occasionally hijacked an airliner. NAFTA hadn't gutted manufacturing yet. Like any other time, it wasn't perfect, and those of us who lived through it tend to view it through nostalgia goggles. I think it will be viewed as a kind of golden age of modern Western civilization, though. Communism failed, the Left hadn't made the inroads they made later, and Islam was something that was mostly somewhere else.

The only good thing about the 90s was that shit was cheap. You can still listen to all the bland music and shitty TV shows but you can't undo inflation and NAFTA.

Don't forget LAN parties. Before the advent of heavy amounts of multiplayer matchmaking that we saw around 2004 or so, LAN parties were the main way anybody could get multiplayer going, especially before the age of services like Xbox live. 16 player Halo was one of my greatest gaming memories, though that's not a 90's feel. LAN Starcraft though, now that's a 90's feel.

Man, cellphones have to be one the worst creations, with regards to its social impact, of recent. Only second to social-media as a whole.

I mean, I like that they have GPS, but everyone is so tethered to their phone now.

Second point: the internet was fucking awesome -- aside from connection-speed, naturally. It was always fun finding some new site to explore because it would generally have interesting content AND looked interesting.

Agreed. There were some great parts to the 90s, but it was a mix of leftover good stuff from the 80s. I was a teen through a lot of the 90s. I remember music being amazing when I was young (Michael Jackson, Whitesnake, Poison, Maiden, Run DMC) and MTV was enjoyable. The record industry switched things up right around 1990 - they start phasing out anything white/fun, and gave us boy bands, grunge, alternative - and put blacks on a pedestal with hop hop, rap, and gangsta rap. I remember movies being awesome, empowering, and not always targeted for mass market / PG-PG13 audiences with mass appeal. It started going to shit when MTV stopped playing music, reality TV was created (the real world was awful), normalizing of homosexual behavior, Jerry Springer and the diarrhea of daytime shit shows. The early 90s were the afterparty of the 80s. Snoop Dogg was the soundtrack of the rise of degeneracy across America. Cable news ruined our country. No cell phones, no social media, no always on connectivity. Video stores were awesome. Arcades were awesome. Not knowing where anyone was - made for fun Friday/Sat nights of driving around. Miss it.

Y'know, even though MTV had some non-music programming back then -- I actually really liked the show Fear they had -- it was STILL music-oriented.

Now, you literally cannot see a music video being played on the channel or any program being music-related aside from the VMAs.

I think the death of TRL really signified the shift away from music.

94 was the peak. I say it died when Kurt Cobain "shot himself." After that point there was no important cultural evolution. Baseball self-immolated that summer. No more rock and roll, no more baseball, the genesis of reality TV, Simpsons and Seinfeld peaked already, etc. I'd like to write e-books on stuff like this, currently just blogging and forming my thoughts. How to bring back the 90s?
Let's see where we are now and compare.
>high-waisted jeans
Done.
>heavy synth-based music
Almost complete opposite, there's no substance and no overdrive on synth bass anymore. Dropping the bass today is like dropping 80% of the available instruments in the song.
>boybands
Nope.
>SEGA and Atari hardware
Even though it was a joke, atari was still around back then and amazingly the brand name still survives, and they recently announced the Ataribox, not specifying specifics other than "it will run games".
SEGA hardware? Lol next topic
>Cassette decks
Believe it or not the peak of prerecorded cassette sales was in 1990, and several techniques regarding the manufacture of cassettes and the penultimate in noise reduction Dolby S came into play that significantly improved the quality.
Not that it has to come back, but it may see a vinyl-esque survival. Speaking of which...
>the death of vinyl
Lol next topic
>pagers
Ah yes, those will never come back. Supplanted by smartphones, although I can envision a system, say in a hospital, where all employees get a smartwatch that's hooked up to the system and you no longer need to take your germy phone out of your pocket every time.
>tamagochi
Again, supplanted by smartphones.
>no Harry Potter beyond book 2
Those were the days my friend, we thought they'd never end, we'd sing and dance, forever and a day.
>Nokia 3310
It's back baby. Probably not nearly as robust, because it's not the original Nokia company, but still.
>interactive CD-ROM, touchscreen that let's you see whatever is in the park
>this is a UNIX system I know this
Anyone else noticed that they've stopped fawning over current tech in movies? Maybe that should come back.

I know I'm missing out on a shitload of 90s things, but a list can only get that long before your mind goes blank.

Spot on. During the 90s, the whole libshit idiocy was confined to a few people at best.

Janeane garofalo and her whiny dumbshit before she was a meme. Now every millennial woman is a carbon copy of snarky/sarcastic+having dumbshit worldviews about as shallow as a cup of coffee and still, for some reason, think they're individuals.

Roseanne was about the most people saw of liberal bullshit in consumable media (remember the absolute chimpout in the papers when her character's sister turned out to be gay?)

Even back then it wasn't tolerable, just new to the mainstream, so people listened for a few seconds before telling them to fuck off. At least George Carlin could actually crack some half decent jokes and sprinkle it into his stand-up.

More white. More conservative. Safer, at least in the US. People had a general sense of the same "values system" and parents could actually (gasp) spank their children (or for that matter, friends of your parents!) without getting assault charges filed on them.

I could go on but I don't want to sound like an old fuck.

I don't have any faith in this happening. Trump will not be allowed to do a damn thing for the next 3 years. It's partly his fault as well, he just didn't have what it takes to push through the swamp. Maybe I'll be proven wrong. I'll never regret supporting him, what other choice did we have? The 90's weren't actually that great.
Sure leftism was as rampant as it is today, but degeneracy was surely common.
It was the last gasps of true western civilization.
Today we're on an artificially created, mongrelized west that's on life support.
I just like the 90's because i wasn't worried, I didn't knew the truth, i was just growing up, worried about watching cartoons and playing with friends, looked like a simple time, it's just outright nostalgia, and while i know they wete quite better, they weren't that great themselves

Shit peaked for me in middle school. I felt like a minority when they bused those fuckers from the city to my high school. I never really got into fights, but I felt like I couldn't let my guard down because people were getting stabbed and beat down daily...

My principle and guidance counselor were black and seemed mildly retarded. The double standard I saw daily redpilled the shit outta me..

I think the key factor was that there was a massive surge in technological growth (particularly the net) that allowed for rapid, global dissemination of information, but it still wasn't to the point that it saturated every aspect of life.

Okay, so this leaf touched on one really shitty part of the 90's: Video games and whatnot were starting to become more mainstream. Violence was a big deal, and the idea of 90's XTREME stuff, especially comic books, was in vogue. This caused a lot of fuddy duddy backlash and calls to censor games, tv, and movies. People like Jack Thompson, legendary anti-violence-in-video-game lawyer, carried this tradition well into the mid 2000's. This is the same era that had people talking about Dungeons and Dragons making children worship the devil, though that was a bit more of an 80's thing.

Fucking terrible. Relatively the 90s had the worst culture, music, tech, and fashion innovations of possibly the entire 20th century. The gulf war kicked off the shitstorm that is still going on today. The only good shit to come out of the 90s came from flag related.
>>
I'd rather be in the 50's where the entertainment was wholesome, women stayed at home, these out and proud commie ANTIFA types would have been strung up or shot, and there wasn't a huge gap between what a boss made and what his employees made (your average CEO makes over 900% more than your average CEO of the 1960s made while your average worker of today makes not much more than 10% more than what your average worker in the 60's would have made)

There are people though who honestly believe we can have what we have in the 50's and also let CEOs keep they ridiculously high salaries at the same time.
>>
I'm going to be 39 next month. The 90's weren't that great. It's when people started to get divorced in massive numbers, traumatizing all the kids that didn't have a cultural template as to how these things were dealt with. Nobody cared about anything and apathy was at least feigned by everyone. Punk was dead and the only thing that replaced it was nihilism and straight edge. It was cool to cut yourself and cool to be gay. We even had SJWs in the form of Riot Grrls. I remember reading a feminist zine at the time that had a comic about killing all the men, extracting the ovum that they had once been, and returning it to the stars as all their maleness was destroyed. Zines on the whole were pretty cool though. I wrote for several in high school. That is the only thing I would bring back from the 90's. Well, that and Jawbox.

#1 that's exterior available light at mid day, probably around 5600K.

#2 CFLs vary greatly in color temperature, but also produce hideous neon greens and purples compared to other tungsten balanced lights

which brings me to #3, CFLs are balanced to be close to incandescent at a tungsten standard of around 3200K.

And just because I can, here's a shitty image of colorimetry spectrums I just stole from jewipedia.

the 90's were a time of joy. Not too much stress. All the adults in my family had good jobs-- i was just a teen, but I was 18 by 2000, and shit was cash. People had cell phones, but they were the nokia ones, which were sweet because the only app they had was snake, so people still payed attention to one another. Cell phones would go on to ruin life. All the mystery and danger were gone. Now your boss can call you 24/7 and youre expected to answer
>>
We are the generation that doesn't want to grow up for some reason. Most people here understand why things are worse, but for the normies who feel the same longing for the feels of the 90's, it's a feeling that they don't understand. We were happier with less, the internet is over stimulation. Girls are sluttier than ever, marriage is virtually dead... hell even if I'm being cynical it's at the every least on the verge of being dead. We are living in a time when the weak willed get plunged into degeneracy, and those who truly search can dig through all of the filth and find enlightenment. I think part of the depression is because humanity as we have always known it is coming to an end, we are in the transition phase toward something bigger.
