Stick to aristotle if you really wanna go down that path.

Why? I figured Aristotle and Plato would go hand in hand, Plato being the precursor to Aristotle.

Anyone who says this actually hasn't read Postman, as he clearly establishes that there will be no forseeable end to technological progress; he simply questions if our society truly understands that technology which we create, and the long term ramifications of the unbridled and unquestioned progress of technology.

Sorry, not even technology will produce a liveable communist utopia. Being a creation of man, technology is as imperfect as us.

From what I've seen he sees technology too much as an isolated, dislodged phenomenon, ignoring it is entangled within our socio-economic reality and therefore takes on this commodified form. Technology can be a scary thing within our currently established mode of production, but I don't see why humans wouldn't be able to reattain their species-being in a technological word under the right conditions. Everything else is just going to end up in some form of primitivism.
>>

Calm down, triggerina. I know he isn't a Marxist but he is in no way sympathetic to your homeboys as well. If you want a quasi-Marxist analysis of capitalism (backed up by data) read pic related.
>communism has the worst track record of any prominent political system in the 20th century
Pretty sure that's fascism. Also you shouldn't throw stones when you are sitting in a glass house, your ideology doesn't even have a history in the 20th century.

TANSTAAFL is about the only thing I really believe in an economic sense (outside of finance). There's really no way to experiment in economics in the scientific sense, so most economic beliefs are unjustifiable.

>From what I've seen he sees technology too much as an isolated, dislodged phenomenon, ignoring it is entangled within our socio-economic reality and therefore takes on this commodified form.

Technology is an isolated, dislodged phenomenon. It is not of the natural world. It is purely because of our will that it exists. Were it not for us none of the present technology we see today would exist.

"Our" reality is illusory. Nobody experiences the same reality. We all have our own separate ideas of reality. Technology and Man are not one, and it is intertwined with no part of us, save the desire to produce and refine it. Simply put, technology is just a product of Man. Nothing ethereal or all-becoming about it. Technology is a tool. Modern society sees it as our destiny.

>Technology can be a scary thing within our currently established mode of production, but I don't see why humans wouldn't be able to reattain their species-being in a technological word under the right conditions. Everything else is just going to end up in some form of primitivism.

We can. Under the right conditions. Which he establishes.

I am no luddite. Technology is necessary, and the desire to create and innovate are one of the things that separate us from the lesser beasts that populate this Earth.

I wouldn't say our present societal conditions justify unbridled and unquestioned technological "progress." We are a society of leeches and workers, not of thinkers and innovaters. It will eventually collapse in on itself and there will be no more "technological progress" to be had for quite some time, because of our carelessness and misunderstanding concerning that which we create.

>implying I even subscribe to any economic schools
According to your flag you subscribe to free market capitalism with small to zero state intervention. Is this not an economic school? Remember that before the neoclassical theory autism came up it was quite normal to talk about economics in the sense of "Polticial Economy". Would you support different systems of economic organization if their was no state to enforce the latter?
>scientific economics
I agree with you insofar that markets are unstable and erratic, and it is almost impossible to predict them. For a scientific economic model, read pic related, it involved economic planning on the basis of cybernetics.
>NS Germany's economic recovery before WW2
Fueled by foreign debt and a ponzi scheme (Mefo-Wechsel) that eventually forced Hitler to declare war before the army was even ready. It also got outpaced by socialism in terms of production output. And the soviet economy wasn't debt-fueld but entirely autarcial.
>ok

Right back at you. How many people here you think have ever tried to read Marx in good faith and don't think that the Frankfurt School is some kabal of Jews and Freemasons hellbent on destroying western civilization. /pol/ is just as much of an echo chamber as the most dogmatic Maoist sect.

yeah... except it sucked compared to any Western Capitalist country in terms of real growth, and relied on slave labor.

>Would you support different systems of economic organization if their was no state to enforce the latter?
Probably, but the benefits of a government are too great to even consider supporting such a situation.

>I agree with you insofar that markets are unstable and erratic, and it is almost impossible to predict them.
Nevermind the markets themselves. There is no way to test the effects of any policy proposal because there is no way to say if the "effects" are being caused by the policy or any other set of causes--of course, there are ways to nuance this statement, but the big picture remains as I've just described it.
