I don't know. I do feel she deserves comeuppance but I have no idea what an appropriate punishment would look like. She is a woman, so she needs to be exposed to the masses of people who find this socially unacceptable if she is ever going to change her mind. If she just goes to lockup and has sex with some burly lesbian for a few years and then leaves, she will still act like it is our fault, not her own, because we punished her.

The public humiliation caused by the media isn't the same thing as forcing her to actually confront that shame. I feel as though something like community service or indentured servitude would be appropriate so she actually feels the effects of her actions on her social status. If she can still pretend to be queen bee at the end of this, feeling no shame whatsoever, then the whole thing is pointless. Certainly going to prison will not help matters because she will be surrounded by people who are "on her level."

This is confounding because it sounds so extreme when I put it on paper. I can't reasonably determine what length of time would be needed to be sufficient. The shame will only last weeks, eventually she will become used to being on the bottom rung of society and people will start to forgive her and assure her she is pretty and and did nothing wrong. A punishment which is too long is pointless, but one which is too short obviously does not fit the crime.

Maybe a very long stint of house arrest would do the trick (with community service), or maybe she should be forced to work for the family of her boyfriend. If we were talking about a man I could suggest something like military service to teach him discipline and beat the flippant attitude out of him. This is a girl though, every single person involved in the punishment will NECESSARILY go easy on her except for random civilians making faces and cruel remarks. She has practically no value to society, so perhaps she should just be executed to save money and effort.
