I honestly think this is what's going to do him in instead of make him successful, believe it or not. When comedians
usually mock someone, they do it for laughs, but specifically they do it because they have a respect or a love for the person they're teasing. We do it to eachother here all the time because we tolerate eachother. Even with comedy roasts, where the comics, and the person being made fun of, all at least like each other.

The problem is, Colbert is really transparent in his mouth-foaming hatred for Trump. When you're REALLY angry with someone or when you REALLY hate someone, you can't make good comedy out of it because you're too mad. Have you ever been so angry with someone that you just want to hurt them? That's Colbert every night for the last 2 years. He has no idea how to be funny because he's literally too angry. It's different when comics like George Carlin did it because they were "angry" in a general sense, and in a way that wasn't real hatred or directed at one person. I honestly see Colbert being seen in a more critical lens down the road (look at the comments on the Oliver Stone Interview or the Bill Burr Interview) He has no witty banter, he doesn't improvise or think on his feet anymore, which are fucking essential in comedy. I think that his original intention in taking over the show was to be the opposite of Jimmy Fallon in every way, and to bring some kind of intellect to late night TV again. Unfortunately, this means he's a real stick in the mud in interviews. He tries to get his guests to talk about Trump whenever he can, but he's an absolutely dreadful interviewer. The Bill Burr one is a great example of how boring he is when talking to guests. And his interview with Oliver Stone was just disgraceful, and I'm no fan of Oliver Stone.
