The entire mythos of Jesus was an attempt to modernize Judaism during roman times. Part of this was a movement away from sacrificial offerings and temple pilgrimage. Jesus was to be the penultimate final sacrifice, which would effectively free Jewish people from the financial burdens of yearly sacrifices and temple pilgrimages. Simple as that.

In it's purest dogmatic form Christianity is really a doomsday religion. Jesus preached an imminent apocalypse.

Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand" (Matthew 3:2) and Matthew (24:7) "this generation will not pass away until all these things take place" and about a million other versus. There are several different bends to try to rectify this with the reality of 2000 years of no Apocalypse. The best is that there's an immortal Jew wandering around who witnessed the life of Jesus.

But the basic ideology is that the end is here, repent, believe in Jesus and you will have ever lasting life. So not a bad deal. But in effect its just a mixture of different religious ideas and imagery that came for under the roman yoke during a trend of romanization of religions subjugated by the empire. So in effect it was a way of making Judaism more compatible with life under roman rule.
