Not always, and regardless, the hospital staff come off inhuman in this situation, not allowing parents the ability to provide treatment they want for their child. Frankly, this harms society because it removes trust in the health system for millions of people.

They don't like the idea that these parents are being told how their child will die. And yes it's gotten emotional and stupid, it's hard to say what's happening. Like, the American doctor could have easily gassed these parents up hoping for a miracle so he becomes famous.

I had an ingrown big toenail and was put on an NHS waiting list. It became infected and gangrenous and the pain was awful. 8 weeks had gone by and despite repeated calls. Nothing came of it. I even went to A&E to show the green and red ooze spilling out of my toe and how swollen my toe was(I couldn't wear shoes at all) and told me to wait. I waited for 7 hours and when they called me they told me no one could do it there and then and I would have to make an appointment that could take 3 weeks to clear. I essentially told them to shove it.

I went private and was seen to immediately, they did it there and then(entire toenail due to how deep the infection went) with aftercare support,prescribed antibiotics and checkups. I had to pay £140 and at the time of this, I was unemployed and told them, they arranged a payment plan of £20 a fortnight.
4 months later. I get a letter stating an appointment for my toe with the NHS.
It took 6 fucking months for an ingrown toe appointment(the waiting list was 4 months) and 2 weeks 2 days after visiting A&E. I'm sure it's improved since then but it really soured my faith in it.

Sometimes the NHS is amazing but others they are beyond terrible. Not their fault though, too many people in the country(we all know why that is...) and mismanaged resources and bloated budgets for useless middle managers.

For my toe related problems at least, I've stayed private since.

sure kids die every day but the point is that in this case it seems the state thinks it has to unilaterally decide who gets treatment and for what. Once the doctors said they were no longer going to treat the baby they should have gotten the fuck out of the way when someone else said they'd give it a go, this is meddling for the sake of meddling. Honestly the child is as good as dead so what real difference does it make if it dies in an burger hospital rather than a bong one. It's not costing the NHS money, they just got all bent out of shape because the parents refused to accept their decision, it's just plain bureaucratic spite.
