The Kurds are "the good goys" in Syria, neutral in Iraq, and "terrorists" in Turkey. The West doesn't have a clear position on them. We suck off Turkey because they are in NATO so we pretend to hate Kurds but then we help them in Syria and Iraq so whatever.

Since the Russians also hate Turkey and are influential in the region they are natural allies of the Kurds, and in recent years they seem to have been drifting toward Russian alignment.
