Meh. One can remain sober from them but it's hard. A more effective (and counter-intuitive) method would be to replace the addiction with a legal and regulated drug like Methadone (for opioid addiction at least). Treating an addict with state-sponsored Methadone actually ends up costing the state less than treating an active illicit drug user. Plus they usually offer/require therapies to help the addicts get over their addiction.

I would argue one of them is the health industry relying on opiates far too much as a solution to problems. in smaller doses and when chemically safe and pure, nazi soldiers were using it as a "go pill" to stay awake for hours on end and have no fear going into battle.

heroin itself is actually used in hospitals today, where it can be properly administered. it's not as bad as people say, they need to learn about the chemical composition of the drug.

the problem is that it gets cut with DISGUSTING shit. tobacco is not that bad for you, it's the thousand chemicals the companies shove in there that makes it really nasty.

everything is poison, in the right dose. remember that.
