Can you please explain India's political system? Is the "president" a useless symbol like a modern European monarch? Is Modi the PM? I thought he had set terms not just leader of his party?

What 2017 election ?
If you mean our new president then he is same as Queen of England. No actual involvement in government and just has to sign papers and all.
Even people don't vote for him but all elected members of parliament do.
Im sure you Canadians have same system.

Indian humour is cringeworthy and they suck at original content creation. Furthermore, the "election" you speak of wasn't really an election at all. It is an indirect vote by electoral college, nothing to do with popular vote. It wasn't even on the news that much.
