I think it's got a lot to do with the economy. Older people are staying in jobs longer, wage stagnation is pretty common, and housing prices are rising. Women don't need men to survive financially and feel less pressure to settle down, so they're able to be a loot choosier since they're in much higher demand than men. Pull up tinder, instagram, or facebook and you'll get instant validation and support as long as you are a moderately attractive woman.

I think this leads to unhappy marriage and divorce since a lot of women perceive (perhaps correctly even) that they could do better if they wanted to. A lot of men see this and see the financial liability from a divorce and decide marriage isn't worth it. Child care is a massive cost these days, and usually both parents need to work to keep the family afloat financially, so when people do have kids they have fewer of them.

I'm not seeking out a relationship and I don't plan on having kids. Stress was a big strain on my last few relationships, and having to work, do household chores, and then do whatever honey-do list stuff she came up with was too much. At least in my experience, most women have unrealistic expectations and are less willing to compromise because they actually can get a man pretty easily, and they'll likely put up with her shit for a few years before breaking down. If it was a one-off, I'd chalk it up to a bad person, but this is a common story in all my relationships as well as those of my peer group. I'm much less miserable on my own.
