So what is art, /pol/? It art really just talent? What do you consider talent, there's no way to properly measure talent except by an individual's own perception of it. Who's to say no effort or thought ever went in a painting with strange proportions? Imagination takes more effort than painting what you see in front of you.

Art has to represent something, and represent it well. This art represent best girl. It's art because it turns me on.

What about this. It represents something we all seem to know. Would this not be art?

Ask yourself: what is the goal?
For that image, a very simplistic happy merchant. Was it recognisable? Yes. We all should know it. Did it fufill its duty? Of course. I see it reposted a lot. So, is it art? By these standards it is.
However, a green triangle on a canvas represents nothing and fufill no real purpose. Nobody uses it for anything. If you think it looks good, it could be art. But if you think it looks good you can be wrong, too.

Not going to make fun of you, because it would be to easy. There is a blatant way to measure talent.
Who is better at the craft?
It's simple as that
I mean in raw ability.
Take two people, assign them a task in the field that requires high knowledge and execution. See who is better at it.
Artistic style is NO excuse for lack of artistic ability.

what goal does a real painting have exactly but be pleasing to the eye or as with the merchant, make a representation of something. We see paintings of battles and portraits of royalty.

I guess the purpose for some would be to be aesthetically pleasing as with the pic. It means nothing, it's pure decoration you're right.

The goals of a painting
>To sell
>To please the buyer
>To please whomever the buyer shows it too
If it doesn't complete all of these, it is a failure. Take any painting. Modern art crap that is bought up by kike sells and please the buyers, but many people whonsee it are disgusted- Failure.
Old, classical art that has been around for centuries probably pleased the churches and royalty who bought it up, and has been famous- Success. That's the difference. If your goal is to make it in the world, you have to be known by a sizeable group. Don't get that and you aren't making "real" art. This can be expanded to all other fields- Donald Trump's The Art of the Deal calls the "Deal" an art, which it very well can be. In that sense, he's a successful artist.

Your view is what seems more realistic or more stylistic? Why would The Scream be less than any other painting like a portrait. Yes it takes more effort to create correct proportions and color but these artist aren't trying to do that, so you can't really compare them

Checkd, I remember that painting from Photoshop phriday. I think the merchant could race mix nicely into it

Brilliant, thought provoking and a classic example of abstract art being an actual art. Rather than literal shit, on a canvas.

You would have to give them a task where difficulty and knowledge on the craft is a must.

A person that has sheer raw technical ability can only add more to their stabilization then one who can only do the abstract.

While I'll agree more effort usually means better artwork, but there's artwork like minimalist artwork where the whole point is to make things not so detailed

Art is an articulation and people enjoy it because it says things that we don't have words for.
