I'm fairly gracious with my tips. I give my barber a little over a 100% tip since they do haircuts real cheap. Otherwise, I usually tip waitresses between 30-50% the cost of the meal, if they're pleasant enough.
I used to tell cashiers to keep the change (fucking hate carrying coins), but stopped that practice after realizing it's more of a pain in the ass for them to deal with than anything else.
I live in a very white state with a tight-knit community, so I like to support them when I can.

Usually I just tip up to the nearest 5 dollar increment. I've never really gotten food or service so great it required anything special.

I tip in cash on the table. That way it most likely goes to staff instead of being added to the bill so the owner can skim it of or use it to 'top up' their wages.
