It isn't. My dad ended up giving up because the lawyer was costing more than it was worth, plus it would have taken forever to get all the money back one paycheck of his at a time. He also thought it wouldn't be fair to guy's kid to have to grow up in poverty. We were never poor because of it. It just put a lot of other things we wanted to do on the backburner. When my dad initially took him to court, the contractor's lawyer had done this a million times and thought the judge would just throw it out or settle for a small payout. But my county is incredibly rural, and the judge knew my dad so he kicked back in his chair and decided to proceed with the case because he "didn't like the way the guy looked".
