Nowhere in the world that matters would you only get $10 for what you've farmed on 50 acres. You can make more than that with just a few squash plants. Or raise chickens and sell the eggs. Ducks instead, if you want to sell more expensive eggs.

A garden that's not even half an acre can easily make you over $10,000 if you're not retarded.

That's my dream. Live out in the country, in a majority white county. Start a family and have a little homestead, and do odd jobs to make by while working the land.

You usually lease equipment out from neighboring farmers if you have a small farm. A second hand tractor and a plough is all you really need.

Paw Paws get eaten up by animals, plus they're impossible to ship since they bruise easily. That's why you don't find them in super markets, most of the food is breed to be hardy and ship easily.

>>133973685

That land?

Sell the timber rights to the largest bidder, deforest the entirety of it. Then, sell off the tamed land to whatever corporate interest wants it. Being a millionaire is more important than trees. The Taiga is the second largest biome on the planet, the loss of trees won't do shit.
>>
>>133977216
Farm *corperations* can make millions. The 50 acre farmer is going to see a return in a generations or so. Equipment and infrastructure is the highest cost for the newbie farmer.

Most people that just jump in, as it appears OP might want to do, have no communal resources- they don't know the people around to help them out or even where to start.

They usually buy equipment way overpriced and junk if not brand new ($$$$$$). Some areas, the farmers wont sell anything worth anything to "outsiders." Not true everywhere but it is almost universal outsiders get the shit end of the stick in almost any arena.

Then there is going to be a few year learning curve, largely on your own. To be quite frank, you probably wouldn't even be able to do it if we didn't live in the age of the internet.

Your best bet is to start very, very small. The quickest and most profitable way to "farm" is probably mushrooms, which won't be sustainable without even more infrastructure and learning curve.

In other words, you'll be dependent on outside sources for alot of material until you learn mushrooms and save up for infrastructure to become more "closed loop", traditional farm.

Keep that in mind, that you'll be dependent on outside materials which are not only costly, but if transportation sector gets shut down for whatever reason, you don't get shipped goods. If your "supply" farm has a bad batch, it becomes your headache. Work towards closing your loops as much as possible.

Do away with all your cable/netflix/hulu/ etc and spend your time learning how to revitalize that land, what works there, and prove yourself to your community. Once they see that you will be treated much better and be far more profitable.

The goal of a good chunk of us is a shot at making it away from society. 50 acres gives you a lifeline to do that. Don't waste it.

Land is one of the few things that has value through good times and bad. The bad are coming.

>Zero Nutritional Value

uhm...ok. not true, but that's besides the point.

Mushrooms of certain varieties are not only marketable, but provide a 4 week turnover on such minimal investment, with great return. The "waste" also becomes compost, or worm food that makes better compost (and another array of farm products). The farm usually needs to focus on his soil before anything else. Mushrooms are a step in the right direction. So easy a monkey could do it, and cheap enough a wagecuck could afford to do it with about 2hrs work a week, effectively doubling his weekly earnings in a 4x4 space.

Maybe this isn't a retarded opinion for your shitty little island, but in America farming is extremely lucrative right now. There is huge demand at trendy hipster groceries and restaurants for in season, locally grown food. Even if all of that dried up tomorrow, you can still make decent money with a small 5-10 acre farm.

Shit man, I know people who just raise a bunch of bees on a few acres and sell the wax and honey. They don't live like kings, but they are comfortably middle class.

>>
>>133980727
I've been posting in this thread a little bit, I run dozens of hives and contracted to manage lots of other peoples. Work with lots and lots of farmers also. I specifically tried not to get them excited about bees. You are correct, it can be *quite* lucrative, but most people don't have the patience or upfront for not only the equipment but for the lag period before you possibly see a return.

I love bees, love doing it, but the fact is most of the money is in equipment and education unless you are commercial with employees and you're going to need contacts and more than 50 acres to do that. Plus he has to hope his area has good forage and the farmer down the street isn't spraying all sorts of shit.

I would start farming anything other than bees unless you already have that passion. At least for his bread and butter. There are far more profitable ways with less time and investment of time, money, heart and soul.

It depends on the variety. Mine are very large varieties which will be slower to come into bearing, but will ultimately grow to an enormous size and eventually bear hundreds of kg of fruit per tree.

In the meantime I'm planting hazelnut between my pear trees, and thinking of planting gooseberries between the apples, which will both fruit within 2 years or so.

There's an old saying here: you plant pears for your heirs.

First, consider the possible acquisitions I could have in its place if I were to sell it at its present market value and buy land elsewhere. I'll see what plans make sense when I've done that

That said, I do have something of a solitary bent... If I can make fifty acres of fertile rural land work for me, I may call "psychic profit" and build a homestead even if something else looked more by-the-numbers appealing. Just as long as the gap isn't too big.

>>
>>133981412
some farms/greenhouses can't do bees. You really just need to make the "hive" for them and in our area the rest works out. I do bees and chickens just started doing Muscovy ducks because they are the redpilled duck.

On paper, I would agree with what I assume your calculations are on profit/sq/ft. The figures look magic when you read about it but nobody tells you for many different reasons unless/until you luck out, keeping just 1 or 2 hives will rarely see "profit" Statistically you'll need a minimum of 5 all star hives at each location, and see the profit from only 2. You profit can be quite high, but it is an incredibly difficult process for most people to quickly and easily grasp (bc I have seen very few succeed) queen rearing, where the real money is.

Let's break it down, from my experience in my area(s) of operation. (east coast mid atlantic)

General recommendation is starting out with 2 or youll get frustrated and quit, and never see the power of a strong hive, statistically speaking.

$100-$300/ ready built hive/frames/various equipment. Per hive.
$100-$200 live bees and queen to stock said hive.

National average 60lbs/hive (pfft, that must be an average- and also after a typical 1.5 year build up of getting to that strength for most new beekeepers.)

@ $10/lb profit, on the very high end- hipster marketing campaign level of price points, that like 600 bucks.

>half your stock dies/disappears, randomly
>"Profit" becomes restocking budget

There are ways around it, but like i said it takes numerous hives, and usually a few years of them building resources aside from the keeper's learning curve to get there. Some areas of the country do better than others. It's quite random.

For $200, on the high end not scavenging or repurposing much----

-4x4 space
-Minimal building materials
-mushroom spawn to boot
-*Maybe* Rudimentary lighting
-couple bales straw
-4-5 weeks
-2-5 hours/week
-7-10lbs a week @ $7-$12/lb depending on market

Better yet put your land together, pay for the equipment proportionally to the part ones parcel consists of the whole, divide the work proportionally so that you divide the profit proportionally. Nobody will get upset, because people get to work as much as they would have worked on their own land, and the profit corresponds fully to the value each one is bringing. Furthermore, the efficiency is greatly increased, so everyone will get a bigger profit than they would if they remained separated.

Oysters are indeed the easiest and quickest to get started. With a wide range of species and developed strains, one should find no problem finding a mushroom for their environment, substrate, skill, budget, market, etc.

Other species provide higher returns, but more picky environmental conditions, and time factor.

Much of farming is a battle between costs and time. Hence why the byproducts of the mushroom farmer is the ideal choice to keep both to a minimal. Instead of buying compost and directly growing from it, you are effectively buying cheaper material in much greater quantity and quality (most compost comes from humanure, big secret, don't tell, that's why there's tampon cartridges and the like in it) then your having it at the very least paying for itself, if not profiting to sit on it for a month, then profiting further by reusing it as the organic matter for other crops you start to dabble in.

They do, though not in the quantity you want, probably. That's assuming your goal is egg. They are a red meat bird, depending on age and the ageing of the meat post harvest, it usually comes out like steak and is almost indistinguishable. Depending on said factors and others, it often comes out being described as veal, venison, steak or even ham.

In commercial animal lots (pigs, cows, whatever) 2 Muscovies can eat 80% of the insect population.

They are extremely detrimental to mosquito, tick, fly etc populations, even invasive fire ants, and can also turn useless, inedible greenery into some of the most nutritious, lean meat on the planet, more than capable of providing 90% of their own (food) inputs.

They can also more than 10fold their population at least once annually. Selling chicks of "off" varieties to other farmers/homesteaders, especially those that don't want to control insect populations with chemicals- is quite lucrative, with almost zero input.

Remember, less input, less time= more profitability and likelyhood you'll quit after loosing your ass.

My soil is too heavy to easily harvest root crops and it's too cold here to get good tomato crops without poly-tunnels.

I don't think you will get much benefit from potatoes on an acre plot. That sort of thing is more suited to mega producers with economies of scale. Look for crops you can value add and sell at a premium.

Go to youtube and look up urban farmers to get answers to questions like that. I know there's a leaf that calls himself the Urban Farmer on youtube and he pulls in 100k on 1/3 of an acre, but I don't know about him growing potatoes. Mostly stuff like sunflowers and kale. There's also a guy in New York with a 1.5 acre farm pulling in 350k, again I don't know about potatoes but he has a couple kinds of tomatoes in greenhouses. Neversink farm, or something like that. Both of those are profits after running their farms for 5+ years, but I vaguely remember the leaf started with an investment of something like 7k and turned it into 20k his first year, then doubled it the next.

Start with finding a home site location. What's a flood plain, what ain't. Where can you dig wells for water for house vs livestock well should you get some pigs/cattle one day.

Subsistence farming will be the norm again one day and our food/water supplies are becoming more untrustworthy by the day. Get some good used machinery and stock up on fuel/oil.

Just start/finish one project at a time. By the time you are too old, your grandchildren will have a place to escape to when shit really hits the fan.

Depends on what it is and what you do with it. Few people in the UK market gardening vegetables on several acres and doing a decent turn over direct. Egg farms fit in under 10 acres too.

You could make a fat chunk of money raising beef on 50 acres of grass every year if it was paid off, fenced and you moved your electric fencing and water each day.

Grow good grass for grazing here. Shame about the time we started feeding them brains.

I inherited around 100 acres last year; it has two houses and we're leasing one. We moved here last October; our house in the city sold in April which freed up cash. Our kids hated it at first and we're still a bit overwhelmed with what to do with it all.
We have pastures and woods; we talked with neighbor farmers to get an idea what to do.
Mostly people just grow hay; a few cattle farms.
OP's pic looks very much like here.

Screw having sheep, get goats instead, they eat everything so they will keep the weeds/grass down (make sure the garden area is fenced off really well) and you can get milk from them a eat them.

No. Will take generations to undo even with full genetic profiling and following a breeding program to the letter.

Their culture emphasized inbreeding as a way to keep property and money in the family and tribe, unless that can be undone there's no hope for them.
