You do realize Skype is proprietary software, right? I'm not saying this is the case, but if it sent telemetry/activity data when the browser extension is running or initiating legit connections, you'd have to 1) reverse engineer the software's malicious behavior 2) catch and decrypt traffic, which is next to impossible.

Browser plugins are practically speaking full-fledged applications. When installed, they can do pretty much anything, like change routing tables. All you need to do is install and run them.

I have just got ubuntu running on my high performance machine.

I am having freezing/lockup issues.

It might be the memory settings in bios. I have been playing around to try get it stable, seems good now. Am also having issues with MBR, doesn't want to boot in regular mode, only wants to boot w/ xen VMware mode or recovery. it didn't help it was the cheapest fastest when I bought it.
