However, I'd say that by and large /pol/ is almost as prone to using emotional means of persuasion (as opposed to rational) as SJWs are. The comparison to pol is important, it reveals that there is an underlying friction going on right now and that this friction spawning consequences. People will always seek narratives to explain the world around them and pol provides one just as much as sjw-ism. It's also definitely true that each attract broken people and then draw them into extremist narratives.

It's really neat how the format of each 'factions' website changes its culture. Tumblr drawns in and amplifies SJW culture due to reblogging. 4chan's drawns in and amplifies /pol/ack types due to anonymity.

I do maintain though that the current /pol/ narrative is much more reaction though, while SJWism has a consistency that can be traced back decades (Fanon on race, Critical Theorist on politics, feminist gay liberation theory on gender, etc.). 4chan used to be much more leftist & libertarian during bush. I remember the ongoing battles about how to intepret trans folk until the /pol/ narrative eventually settled on "they claimed them so we'll reject them." I think that distinction is really important.

Finally while there is a coherant /pol/ narrative a lot of it is exaggeration and irony. /pol/ is funny. It draws in a lot of people who can see it slaying sacred cows but who arn't beholden to it. SJWism doesn't have that same level of "a lot of people don't really believe this shit but do think it has a good point." /pol/ brings in millions of people who might think Richard Spencer has some interesting ideas but is also hilariously delusional. I agree with you that /pol/ is more reaction-driven. However, that if anything makes me dislike /pol/ even more.
I understand that /pol/ used to be different - however, it is what /pol/ is now that disturbs me. The joke is coming from a mouth that is distended into a hateful sneer. There is more and more only a tradition of joking. The glorious ancestors of 4chan joked. We go through the motions of joking while steadily slipping more and more into madness. /pol/ still is actually funny, but less so day by day. I find several other 4chan boards to be much more funny, because more in touch with reality at this point. Angela Negle is probably one of the few normies who actually understands whats going on here. Her interviews reveal as much. She understands that what gives pol power are these fractures that no one is willing to address, which in turns gives room for extremists to claim them as territory. Addressing legitimate problems while conflating them with their own delusional solutions. I'll give it another listen. I think I missed a lot on the first go. To we what seems mainly important isn't that she laughed - I'm sure many people who understand nothing have come here and laughed - but that she understands that much of this is a sociopathic and dumb reaction to real problems. And she has bothered to learn more about the history of online culture leading up to the current state than almost any mainstream observer ever did. She has followed some of the connections to the PUA movement and so on.
I unfortunately suspect that the ratio of true believers to comedians has become quite tipped toward the former by now.

I can't really blame her much for that. When thousands of people on the Internet who are deeply interested in politics talk repeatedly about literally murdering their political opponents, and you actually meet out-and-out sociopaths (criminals, serious assholes, etc) in real life fairly frequently, and you read a bit and are aware of the history of populist totalitarian movements and of the sort of bad shit that goes on in the world every day... well, I definitely get being alarmed. There's also the fact that people who self-identify as right-wingers tend to love guns and be overrepresented in police and military...
I personally don't even think there is such a thing as a meaningful "right" in politics. Social "rightists" such as Nazis and economic "rightists" such as free market lovers are as different from each other as either is from leftists.
