As a german i know that very well, luckily many germans grew up with their grandfathers and granduncles surviving the war so we were redpilled at an early age while in school being taught the exact opposite and told to feel ashamed of our family.
That's why anytime you meet a german apologizing and feeling ashamed for anything WW2 related you can be almost sure that they either didn't have their grandparents near them when growing up but only visited them on christmas for example or they died in the war and they grew up just with their school indoctrination

Doesn't bother me because unlike my school, my family and my relatives former comrades could provide proof, documents and pictures while schoolbooks literally only used either cherry-picked picture or partly cut off ones while making everything sound too simple.

For example the resistance in Alsace claimed one of my grandfathers units murdered and impaled a 14 year old french girl for giving apples to the resistance.
Turned out the resistance killed and raped the girl (not impaled though) for giving potatoes to the Waffen SS soldiers nearby.
