In Europe food was plentiful, as settlements were never far away. Russia was filled with tiny villages with huge areas filled with nothing. The French army could not buy sufficient amounts of food, since there was no food to buy.

2. The size of the army
Napoleons army was the largest army ever assembled. It also had the largest cavalry contingent of all time. Combine this with point 1 and you have a problem

3. desertion
the openness of Russia made it easy for soldiers to run away. The French army was an international one. The Germans for instance did not want to fight under the French flag, so they ran away. They then became brigands who robbed supply wagons coming up from Europe. This burdens the supply situation even more.

4. Russian strategy
The Russians chose to run away like the Pussies they are. They knew they would lose, and when they decided to fight they did in fact lose (Borodino).

tl'dr: Russia was such a backwards shithole that Napoleons Army could not be fed.
