Net Neutrality is what we have currently. Basically forces ISPs to run things at equal speed no matter what service or website you're using their service to access. Without Net Neutrality ISPs can charge you extra in order to access certain websites or services (eg 4chan.org) which if you refuse to pay you'll either be significantly throttled in speed or have your access shut down entirely. It wouldn't even be that big a deal if competition among ISPs was actually a thing, but that's actually pretty rare since monopolies like Comcast are the only option a lot of people have. Considering this, they'd be able to buttfuck you up the ass with charging for services you consistently use.

Which is only a problem because there isn't competition to run to.

And right now there isn't any real market competition because "open internet" laws won't let newcomers allocate their resources (bandwidth) properly in the name of "muh equality"
You think you have it nice but current speeds are shit for this reason.
"Open Internet" is propping up the current oligopoly. It's a massive internet safe space. It's the training wheels on your bike, made to keep you from falling and getting a booboo.

Net neutrality is comprised of those regulations.
Specifically the "Title II" classification of the internet, which makes it a "public utility".

It's that classification which allows government to get their grubby little hands on the tubes. Then under the pretense of "doing what's best for us" they have every opportunity to manipulate those regulations and encourage the cronyism the civilian-level public fears.

Christ, the shills are really going all out.
I suppose that the forces in favor of ending net neutrality have brought in some better, more convincing apologists for this one. And some retards are actually falling for it.

The internet isn't just a timesink, it's an incredible forum for sharing ideas. Any younger folks might not remember what the world was like before this, but the internet as it currently exists is pretty fucking spectacular. We can exchange, compare, and evolve ideas at a speed and volume that was fucking unfathomable even just in the 1980s. And our constant comparison of ideas is pretty good at revealing the truth of things and forcing others to be honest. And there's still more that we can do in this avenue.

The only ones who win from being able to throttle, restrict, and control -- effectively censor -- information on the internet are fucking corporatists. Modern oligarchs. The people who try to shout down any dissenting opinions as "phobia" of one sort or another, the people who want to replace you with third-worlders who'll work for less and who are easier to control. These are the people who will, without the protection of net neutrality, have the greatest means to push their message and squash dissent MORE SO THAN THEY ALREADY TRY TO FUCKING DO.
You see what they already say and do now, and you want to make it easier for them?

If that's what you want, go ahead. Kill net neutrality and bring about the fucking cyberpunk dystopia. Except all of the cool music and aesthetics have been replaced by slavery and cultural suicide.
>>
>>133455048
Except when service providers are also content creators and have a vested interest in throttling competition or whatever is deemed "necessary". >service providers are also content creators
I don't understand. You're implying Facebook has control over Twitter traffic, for example? That's not the case. Facebook doesn't provide internet.

Real ISP's can't throttle competition, because that would be like two gas stations, connected to different pipelines, influencing each other's flow of petrol.
What they "throttle" is their own services. Netflix vs World of Warcraft.
This is called "Traffic" Management, and ideally it's different across various "Freeways", because all traffic isn't equal.

>what guarantee is there that changing the title 2 distinction will allow for more competition
Because it's the basis for government control of Traffic Management. They are not allowing different companies to have control of their own resources.

Bandwidth is like the space on a roadway on which cars (data) can travel. It's limited, and forcing companies to price all levels of bandwidth consumption equally is like forcing all freeways to hold the same amount of cars.
It means that only the biggest companies can afford to play the game, and furthermore, only government officials - which can be bought and sold - have the "keys" to that legislation.

People lobbying for the change of the legislation - dropping so-called "open internet" - do it on the basis of allowing competition. They see "net neutrality" as a farce. Neutral internet means government cronies keep their hands off.

Debatable, but it's only a problem if there's no competition.

In a world where we have the choice to go to another provider, they would go out of business for doing such wacky shit.
We currently have very few such choices, because "Net Neutrality" includes a regulation which stifles competition, by outlawing "traffic management". New companies can't function properly under this law.

That is called "legislating morality".
That is no good.
The banter is that a sizable minority in your country promotes legislation which governs morality under the name of Sharia Law. This is not a problem we have here in America because our Muslim population is relatively docile and reasonable.

But I also provided quite a lengthy post of legit arguments, separate from that banter, which you've yet to address, ironically.
Here, I'll re-summarize them in case the severity of that reality check threw you off:
>competition keeps the internet priced reasonably
>net neutrality stifles competition by outlawing traffic management

How do you feel about the current Net Neutrality laws in America, given those arguments?

Study the posted pic very carefully. Understand it's deeper meaning. If you can't ensure - even on Donald Fart shilling threads - that anyone who criticises /pol/'s precious 'Emprah' won't be replied to at least: or preferably, anything derogatory about him will be agreed with. Certainly without threats of violence: or death, then something infinitely worse than so-called 'Sharia' exists here in /pol/: which, by definition, is supposed to be AGAINST.

But then, that's the alt-right for you: Hypocrisy is hardwired into their DNA.

...and 'Bants'? That's the worst excuse of all. But then, 99% of /pol/ are good at those.

So I ask again: why should be anything done to 4chan, especially /pol/, which the likes of you - the alt-right - don't like, and a left-winger like me does, be such a BAD thing: from MY point of view...?
>>
>>133459714
>because big corps take years to negotiate
We'd had the internet for over a decade. Surely these big corporations would have picked up on the idea that they can charge extra for porn access, 90's pedo chatroom access, etc etc.

It wouldn't be a problem if they did anyway, because you would just go to another company.
There would be more companies if newcomers were allowed to price their bandwidth consumption properly: the current regulation dictates that high-bandwidth services have to cost the same as low-bandwidth ones, which is hard on the producer.
This doesn't just mean oligopoly, it means those few companies which can afford to do that HAVE to compensate with high prices.

Alternatively, we could have a company emerge that JUST sells the low-bandwidth stuff, or selectively charges based on what you use during the day, so they can save money.

Are you aware that big corporations like Facebook and Google are vying for NN as well? They're afraid they'll lose traffic, but that fear costing us greatly in terms of internet speed and price.

The internet was invented by WASPs, but all the tech companies were owned by Jews who produced content for it to keep the goyim sedated.

Okay, we don't have to talk about Net Neutrality specifically, right now.
Let me first help you untwist your liberal panties for a second so you might be able to digest some new information later:

Your very first shitpost, which brought us down this rabbit hole, advocated for the restriction of /pol/ content, on the basis that it was mean.
Sometimes, even as a leftist, you like to say mean things. You should be allowed to do so. This is why you do not want to legislate morality.

Why would they censor anything?
The corp that censors the least will get the most traffic while the uber restricted one will look like dicks. I'm not sure what the problem is here.
