Why do we keep having to fight this thing back

What can we do to give it a death blow?

I know theres groups going on about free internet and that it is a basic human right.

Maybe congress needs to put something about maintaining net neutrality in its bill of rights?

Or maybe some smart scriptees will make a program to ensure that the net remains neutral.

Why do the business want to do this?

Dont they make a shit ton of money already?

If you wanted to privatize the internet then you should have rolled it out like that, but no.
You gave us something and now you want to smash it up and break it up into tiny pieces.
You cant do that, people will be too angry.

The best way to do that would be piece by little piece so its hardly noticable.

I don't quite understand, but how does net neutrality save competition?
Comcast would face competition from cheaper ISPs if they ramped up their prices and adapt or lose corporate value, without net neutrality.
With Net Neutrality, they can't do this and can thus keep their costs at a steady price while they can't block any sites which effectively makes them non-controversial outside of price.

God damnit, it's the fucking contrarian Norwegian again.
>>
>>133415331
In moste sane countries, the lines are rented out to the ISPs, but they own them in the good ol' US of A. Anyone wishing to enter the market will have to lay down their own lines, if they want to compete with Comcast or Verizon who just so happened to have lobbied the local government into putting regulations in place that make it nearly impossible for even google to lay down their own lines.

So government assisted monopolies would allow them to buttfuck most everyone and you can't even go to the other guy because he doesn't exist.

Yeah, until a new bill comes out requiring everyone pay for platinum level internet access from ISPs even if they don't even use email. Just like obamacare and "insurance" requirements. Just don't do anything and it will solve itself by people paying for what they want. Government can't have people making voluntary interactions so we gotta do net "neutrality" even though that is what we have had up until relatively recently.

>>133416402

Don't you understand? We'll never kill it, man. Every single time anything is done to stop it, they'll just wait a little while and try to shove it through under a new name.

They're not even relying on being able to smuggle it past any of us. They're relying on issue fatigue. Look at the posts about it all over the fucking internet right now. "Are you guys on about this AGAIN?" That's what they want.

This happens all over politics. If any Irish bros are reading this, please do explain all the times this was done to you guys in the last 15 years or so over dumb shit like bank bailouts, referendums that were posed again and again until you gave the "right" answer or nobody bothered turning up.

We in Britain were really scared that our EU referendum would turn into a "neverendum" too, something that we repeatedly get posed until we answer Remain like good goyim.

It's even worse with laws than it is with issues you can actually vote directly on since repeatedly posing the same fucking thing costs practically nothing compared to repeatedly holding a vote.

Constant vigilance is the only solution for now, and that's only a stop-gap. In the long term, people who actually understand this shit and care (And there are loads on the internet, look at the gigantic community of open source autists who code "free as in freedom" variants of every kike proprierary platform) are going to have to establish some kind of parallel internet or something, some means of having another service or protocol that's out of the reach of legislators.

I barely understand computer technology myself, sadly.

Content providers (netflix, google, etc.) prefer to consolidate all their servers into a single monolithic data center and have the ISP pay for the infrastructure required to backhaul all that data out of one point to the end user.

The ISPs either want the content providers to decentralize their server infrastructure to be closer, network wise, to the end user, or to pay MUH FAIR SHARE to the ISP for the costs of building a distribution network capable of delivering their content.

This is a disagreement between the content providers and the network providers, and they should work it out among themselves without the government getting involved. The scare tactic of them trying to convince the end user that they are going to have to pay a premium to access their favorite site is complete bullshit designed to get you to side with one mega corporation who doesn't want to pay another mega corporation for the use of their resources.

>Parralel Internet will come to be in the form of either 'cracked' ISPs or the rise of completely new ISPs to bypass Charter kikespeed internet and the like, corporations are too greedy to completely abide by the Jew if there is money to be made in the aforementioned..

Whatever damage control they try to implement will pale in comparison to the raw fury of a tech-savvy man in his mid 30's forced to pay extra for his lolicon. See to it that you strike back as well.

THE TRUTH ABOUT NET NEUTRALITY:

Let's regulate the internets! We're gonna need to create a whole new branch of government to enforce it. Once we pay for all of that (and scrub whatever the current administration considers a' threat to society' from the internet), I'm sure we'll find a good use for all that sudden revenue!
>>
>>133411286
Lemme see.... Government creates the internet monopolies then creates NN to regulate said companies so that said monopolies now have to pay the beurocrats of the government that created them so they create regulations that favor said companies. Ummmm no thank you!
>>
>>133418619

And most of those places with a "choice" only have two to choose from, usually one of them will be for high end speeds while the other is shitty and cheaper. I get to choose between Comcast and Frontier. It's literally either a giant douche or turd sandwich.

"Network Neutrality" - the idea that data and traffic should be treated equally, has existed since the 1980s and it's been the de facto standard of the web despite there being virtually no federal regulation enforcing it.

"Net Neutrality" is a bill that was passed by the Obama Administration in 2015 giving the FCC more regulatory powers, most of which haven't come into effect yet.

Why do so many people on /pol/ think this? Just because some legislation doesn't mean NN is "new." Internet traffic has always been treated equally, neutrally. This is how little independent sites and apps can compete--because they aren't being squeezed out by big companies who can pay the ISP's to give their customers priority data to use their sites and products. For instance Facebook will have unlimited data and not count against your data usage, so they now have an advantage to branch out and offer other services that keep users on Facebook instead of elsewhere. Can you people not see where this would go? Losing NN is the corporatization of the internet. It's giving power of speech and press back to the old gatekeepers like CNN and publishing houses.

Here where i live there are 2 bottom end options
1. the main company 44.99 for 100mbps up 10 down

2. obscure company 29.99 10mbps up 10 down two year contract minimum.

Tell me theres real competition in my market. I tried to go total mobile and only use personal hotspots, blew 5 gigs in 10 days, and i couldnt watch streaming video outside of youtube b/c throttle after the first 3.

Nice map. Too bad it doesn't reflect what "choices" we really have. Most have only one or two big companies like TWC to choose from. The others are BS dsl like century link or verizon 4g wifi or the odd satellite company that horrendously slow and super expensive. Unless you live in a big metro are you basically fucked. I'm not shilling for ISP or cable companies but it's not cost effective to run cable to ma and pa kettle in wyoming. No people, no service. It's a huge investment to provide service to rural places and small towns. And there is a political side to it also. Cable company rights usually involve a deal with local council to supply free service to gubbmint for a license. It happened here 25 years ago and they still get free service and no other cable providers available to choose from. Big metro areas get around that because of competition. My parents farm is out in the boonies with no cable available. Some company strung fiber optic cable in the 80's and to this day no one is using it.

acting as a common carrier means that ISPs are not liable for illegal content on their networks.

net neutrality forced them to audit and provide proof that they were ensuring "fair" access to everyone, while at the same time putting the entire sector under a regulatory body that is easily manipulated by shitlibs.

the same people bitching about this are also screaming to ban "hate speech", shut down sites they don't like, and demand "regulation" of talk radio.

thats not the point, the point is theres not competition.

Theres being able to read text on the internet end theres being able to use the internet.

If the company charged 100$ a month for 100/10 id have to pay it, and they will. month to month no contract isnt for me its for them to raise the price so they can find the point people decide to do without.

Try using 10/10 you cant even order shit from 1800 contacts its a fucking joke. so once again the only options are
100/10
10/10
1000/100
from two diffrent companies. its like saying that a home depot and a wallgreens are competitors. In all reality for anyone with a smart phone and a computer there is ONLY one provider.

The best solution is to pass a law categorizing Internet infrastructure like broadband cables to be legally considered infrastructure - federal statutes would prevent service providers from squeezing companies doing business through what would then be public infrastructure. Best answer. This seems to just be some mega corporation fucking over another. The ISP's will not get away with censoring or blocking sites. I love that all the "Your interbuttz will cost 400$/mo. because greedy porkies" ignore that exploitative corporations would invite competition from asshole capitalists who'd settle for a paltry 350$/mo. and so on. Regulatory capture is a real thing. The government and the big Telcos are in bed together and profiting from the relationship, nothing is going to change this. Relying on the Feds to punish wrongdoing, be it censorship, throttling, price-gouging, etc. is unrealistic. Government officers and their corporate partners don't go to jail and don't get bankrupted for politically correct crimes. Without NN, the internet provision becomes more lucrative to competitors and innovators. Loss of market share is a scary club the people hold over companies to get what they want, because it's much harder to appease the mob as opposed to a handful of "top men" in DC.

I didn't change my argument. You just have a different understanding of what I'm saying because your hard head has this specific MEME definition of what "Net Neutrality" is.

Has government regulation stopped monopolies from existing? NO.
Will government regulation of the internet stop ISP monopolies from existing? NO.
Then what is the point of "Net Neutrality"? To give the government more power over us, via the new frontier, the internet. The government is impeding on our rights. You are not allowed to browse certain sites or see certain things based on your country's laws. This is "Net Neutrality".

I disagree with this. The internet should be totally free of any and all regulations from any governments. No one should lay claim to the internet except for the ISPs that provide the service and the people that purchase said services. YOU should be allowed to become an ISP, if you so desire. YOU should be able to compete with other ISPs. With "Net Neutrality" this would become an impossibility because you were be forced to adhere to the same strict standards as those monopolies that we both hate so much. You would be gimped from square one.

And you might want to learn the definition of "straw man", while you're at it. It's not just a trendy way of dismissing a valid argument in current year.

Net Neutrality didn't exist before 2015 and none of the dystopian bullshit libtards are scaremonging with ever happened.

Germany has Net Neutrality and they block thousands of conservative websites.

Net Neutrality takes the control of the internet away from multiple competing private companies and gives it to the government.

It just means that ISPs can't censor or throttle packets arbitrarily based on their source and destination.

>Here are the opinions of some other people that are better at explaining said belief than I am
Maybe you should get good at explaining your belief, if you believe in it so much. But thanks for the links, I'll check them out.

Places
The
FCC
In
A
Position
Of

And
Power
Over
The

How can you not see that this is a bad idea?

That and there's already many competition-limiting tactics in place by corporations.

>your two thousand tenant apartment complex is under contract by Comcast to only allow Comcast to its tenants
>this is legal
>your BFE area is only serviced by a single ISP, AT&T
>Startup Internet ISP provided reliable and affordable internet while respecting consumer privacy and treating all traffic equally
>it was swiftly bought out by AT&T which throttles all traffic outside of SurveillanceBook and PropagandaTube, and 4chan, the prorate bay and amibeingdetained.org are not viewable at all

ISPs MUST be declared COMMON CARRIERS to actually ensure net neutrality from corporations as well as the government.

>It wasn't their government, so the government didn't have justifica-
It still happened. Being angry doesn't stop genocide. Defending yourself stops genocide. I might not agree with Antifa but they actually believe they're being attacked, so they justify their aggression as a form of self defense. The natives should not have gone willingly into slavery. The nergos in africa should not have went willingly into slavery. If you submit, you consent to failure.

I was pointing out how socialists claim the collapse of their government is not the fault of their own system but some outside force, like Capitalism. Natives blame their extinction on white man but their people gave up. YOU don't see a point in fighting the corrupt government or corrupt monopolies because you think it's too hard, so you barter lesser evils. I say FUCK THAT SHIT.
