dark matter is literally defined by its observable qualities. it is matter in that it has mass and takes up space (or at the very least it exists in spatial relation to other objects). and it is "dark" in that you can't see it.

god may exist but the christian god, at least, is conveniently defined in such a way that we can never design any experiment that could confirm his existence or discover his nature

Dark matter is just a placeholder. We see unexpected rotation curves in galaxies and interactions between colliding galaxies and clusters. These observations can be explained without modifying our existing, and pretty good, model of gravity by simply applying more mass... we don't know where the mass would come from, but that seems to be the simplest solution, so that's what we're going with until we find something better.

Same with dark energy. We see the expansion of the universe accelerating. Something has to be driving that acceleration. If we add a constant to the relevant equations that seems to fix it. Maybe it's some kind of cosmological property, a cost of space existing and expanding, we don't know, it's just a placeholder for now.

if you have to argue for God's existence then you prove he isnt real, since the whole concept of God relies on faith and faith alone

This thread feels like the work of a troll trying to destroy the fedora meme because it upsets him. If they tie the fedora meme with retarded arguments, then somehow they hope it will go away.

If this is a genuine thread, then you are doing it all wrong. Dark matter is just unexplained wells of gravity. It is detected and is therefore phenomenal.

Problem is how can you "prove" the existence of God when God does not "exist" as you and I perceive it? It comes down to faith. Only one time in history did God come down in the form of man to dwell with us. He died, rose, and ascended on high. The thing is we are left with mysteries, and these mysteries cannot be satisfactorily explained through the scientific method. There are strange preternatural events that might be able to be observed, but they could not be replicated properly. For example, human possession by demonic entities has been studied by level headed folks, and they had witnessed things that they could not rationally explain. The problem is they could not ask the demon to do something again just so they could verify it. It does not work that way. With supernatural miracles from the Lord,we cannot go back and restudy them. We must go on faith, and faith comes by hearing, and the hearing comes from the grace of God.

Unfortunately, many things in reality are beyond our ability to test. I would love to be able to test String theory rigorously, but it has evaded all such attempts. God's existence likewise has implications for reality, but isn't directly testable, since such tests would require God to participate in helping you with the test, which he ostensibly isn't interested in doing for just anyone at anytime.

dark matter isn't really a thing, it's something that arises from the huge discrepancy between the amount of matter we see and the amount of matter that should actually be there according to certain calculations. Dark matter not some mystical substance, it refers to the discrepency, that's it.

Now granted there are plenty of scientists who believe it may actually be a real form of matter that doesn't interact with light, they're working on experiments that will help give an answer to that, but nothing is proven yet. It's also likely that there's something about galaxies that we don't quite understand, which plenty of scientists also believe may very well be true.

Dark matter can't be directly seen but it's gravity can. It's like seeing a shadow but not seeing the object casting the shadow, you know it's there because the shadow is there but you can't see the object it's self.

God(s) are just comforts for people, thousands of gods have been created by humans that statistically even if one of those gods is real the chances of your god being the correct one is very very low.
