the United States wasn't founded on the ideology of slavery though. Slavery is written into the articles of secession and Cornerstone Speech. The US wasn't wiped out, so it lived on to reform itself, abolish slavery, and eventually abolish Jim Crow. The Confederacy was born and died with slavery at its heart.

Of course it's still about economic and political isolation and getting fucked by the North, and painting it like some moral war of abolitionists against evil slavedrivers is flat out wrong, but it's pretty easy to see why the flag is associated with slavery and racism. Especially since its modern resurgence began as a response to the civil rights movement.
