What are your thoughts on the positive or sympathetic portrayal of Jews in old famous literature?
Such as the famous Ivanhoe (a beautiful, kind Jewess saves the hero with magic potions and tries to entrap him, two goys fight to the death over her one dies, and her father is a kind, old, oppressed merchant who is generous to the goy hero), or Shakespeare's Merchant of Venice for example?
Were the authors of such plays and novels patron's Jews perhaps who funded them to shill for them?
Also, has anyone got a list of novels or plays that also show Jews in a similar light?

The name "Shylock" even became a derogatory term for Jews.
